چکیده

We study the percolation properties of embedded topological defects, Z–vortices, and the occurrence of the corresponding Nambu monopoles in the electroweak theory for a Higgs mass MH ≈ 100 GeV, near to the crossover temperature. Although there is no phase transition anymore at such strong selfcoupling, we observe that the Z–vortices still exhibit a percolation transition that has been found recently to accompany the first order transition at smaller Higgs mass. The percolating network of Z–vortex trajectories existing at higher temperature breaks into small segments with temperature decreasing below a well-defined value. Then one finds closed loops as well as monopolium states. The percolation transition is a prerequisite of a string mediated baryon number generation scenario. Embedded Topological Defects in Electroweak Theory: From Percolating Networks to Sphalerons

New defects (Z-vortices and Nambu monopoles) are found to become thermodynamically relevant for the broken phase near to the (weakly first order) electroweak phase transition, and below the crossover for higher Higgs mass. The symmetric phase is characterized by vortex condensation (percolation). The percolation transition persists in the crossover region. The quasiclassical nature of the vorti...

Dynamics of Topological Defects in Electroweak Theory

Embedded defects proposed long ago (Z–vortices and Nambu monopoles) have been successfully searched for in 3D equilibrium lattice studies within the standard model near the electroweak phase transition and the crossover (which follows it for realistic Higgs mass). Gauge independent lattice–vortex operators are proposed. Vortex condensation (percolation) is found to characterize the high–tempera...

Embedded Vortices and Their Interactions at Electroweak Crossover

We study properties of Z–vortices in the crossover region of the 3D SU(2) Higgs model. Correlators of the vortex currents with gauge field energy and Higgs field squared (“quantum vortex profile”) reveal a structure that can be compared with a classical vortex. We define a core size and a penetration depth from the vortex profile. Z–vortices are found to interact with each other analogously to ...

Percolation of Vortices in the 3D Abelian Lattice Higgs Model

The compact Abelian Higgs model is simulated on a cubic lattice where it possesses vortex lines and pointlike magnetic monopoles as topological defects. The focus of this high-precision Monte Carlo study is on the vortex network, which is investigated by means of percolation observables. In the region of the phase diagram where the Higgs and confinement phases are separated by a first-order tra...

Embedded Topological Defects in Hot Electroweak Theory: a Lattice Study

We study the properties of Nambu monopoles and Z–vortices in the 3D lattice SU(2) Higgs theory which represents the Standard Model at high temperature. We show that the densities of the Nambu monopoles and the Z–vortices are O(1) in the symmetric phase and generically small in the Higgs phase. Near to the critical Higgs mass and in the vicinity of the phase transition the densities are no more ...
